post-ketamine therapy patients expect

For many who are considering ketamine therapy treatments for a few different conditions, this will be a relatively new world where you have some basic questions. One of the most common subjects here: What patients can expect following ketamine therapy treatment.

At A Mind's Journey, we're proud to not only provide quality ketamine therapy treatments to clients throughout Sandy, UT and nearby areas, but also to offer expertise and basic tips to those who are looking to learn more about this beneficial form of treatment and how it might assist them. What you can expect after a ketamine therapy treatment will depend on several individual factors, but there are a few common themes that often show up with many of our patients -- and we'll go over those here in this two-part blog series.

Every Experience is Different

Before we dig into specific expectations for the aftermath of ketamine treatments, it's vital for us to simply note once again that each person's experience can be a bit different. There are no guarantees one way or the other regarding how you might react, and there is no single "usual" response when it comes to ketamine therapy. Also, beware that even if you have a slightly negative or off-putting experience with your first ketamine treatment, it's highly likely that factors like your dosage are contributing -- and getting these right will often limit or even eliminate any unwanted side effects.

With this disclaimer in mind, let's look at a few common themes or situations you may find yourself in following ketamine therapy treatment (temporary, of course).

Minor Fatigue or Tiredness

Ketamine infusions often take both your mind and body on a journey, pulling you out of your regular routine and introducing some interesting changes. This is completely normal, especially if you're using a higher dose of ketamine in your therapy -- but even in lower doses, you may feel some sleepiness or tiredness after your treatment.

Many patients might find themselves so relaxed and calm following a session that they have a hard time getting motivated to do much of anything, even if their physical body feels fine. While this can be a bit frustrating at times, it's also reflective of the positive effects you'll eventually feel.

Possible Feelings of Vulnerability

Ketamine infusions may also make you vulnerable, and this is why we often recommend concurrent forms of therapy or coaching alongside treatment. While you'll likely feel open and happy after a session, it's also possible that you'd avoid strong stimuli or any big changes to your daily routine -- even if they are positive! Some people experience some mild depression following ketamine treatments, too.

This doesn't mean this is an "issue" with our therapies, nor should you worry in the slightest. It's just an important observation that some people feel differently than others -- and it's almost always for the better!
